Boise State has a robust internship program, placing over 1,300 student interns each year. An internship provides the opportunity to:

  • Explore career possibilities in a concrete way
  • Network with individuals and corporations
  • Earn BSU credit (typically 3 credit-hours)
  • Earn money

Philosophy Majors whose post-graduation plans are not well defined would do well to consider an internship.

To see the many opportunities available, you will need to register for BroncoJobs at the Career Center home page. After registering, you will be given instructions for accessing the BroncoJobs site. If you find a position that looks interesting and would like to know more about the process of becoming an intern, contact Tony Roark, the Philosophy Department Coordinator for internships. You can also find a list of FAQ's at http://career.boisestate.edu/InternshipForStudents.htm.

Career Counseling

Students whose only major is Philosophy inevitably run up against the question of what to do after graduation. While Philosophy Majors rank among the best in terms of skills that employers are looking for (take a look at the data for yourself), the Major doesn't prepare a person for any particular profession as such.

The Career Center has an excellent piece of software called the DISCOVER Career Guidance System that can help you learn more about your own professional strengths, interests, and values, and then suggest various fields of employment. The program is web-based and can be run remotely. (You can plan your career path at home in pajamas!) Students give the program very high marks.

The Philosophy Department faculty are also available for advice concerning career planning.
